Summer Sun Skin Care! (how to keep from tanning)

Hey guys!
Alright before i get started i wanted to give you some background. *skip this paragraph if you dont care about me and just want the tip!* i am chinese (duh), and like most asian girls i was always told by my mother not to tan. this is because in china, the women who would traditionally get tan and dark would work outside in the rice paddies and be lower class. the women with light skin would stay indoors all day because they were high class and didn't have to work. so thats why asian people dont like tanning. now that i have been raised my whole life telling me not to tan, telling me i wouldn't be pretty if i were tan, its all imbedded in my brain and i cant stop thinking like that, at least a little. because i am chinese my skin has a high concentration of melanin in it, the part of your skin that makes you tan in the sun. i personally tan very easily and very dark. maybe a shade darker per hour in the sun. i go to a farm camp every summer and i spend most of my days outside. last year i tanned maybe 8-9 shades darker than my true skin tone...i know, it was crazy all in 10 days! the rest of the summer i was happy with it but when it got to winter i found out i had S.A.D. seasonal affective disorder, which makes me depressed in the winter. looking at my summer skin made me feel worse than ever. all winter i kept my tan and tried desperately to get rid of it. i couldn't find anything on it so i just decided to exfoliate and wait. through my constant googling of "how not to tan" i came across a lot of articles about sun damage and premature aging, as well as skin cancer. i was always skipping sunscreen because of the sticky feeling and ghastly white color it gives you (as well as the GREASE factor). i sure dont want to age any more quickly than i need to, and skin sagging, cancer, wrinkles, and darks spots all sound awful. i was super determined to find products to help me with all of my problems (not the depression though).

Lets Get Started!
Today i am featuring and sort of reviewing these two products:

-Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder in light:
a light sort of translucent powder

-Neutrogena spectrum+ Advanced sunblock lotion (spf 70)
a clean and lightweight feeling lotion that's not too greasy

the powder

the sunscreen
In the morning before i go out for the day (sunny or not) i first cleanse my face. i dont moisturize because i feel like this sunscreen is moisturizing enough for even my very dry, flakey, skin. I then take about a nickel sized amount (i use a ton for extra coverage) and spread it evenly over my face and neck. i used to hate that nasty greasy look you could get from applying sunscreen on your face, so i never used it. then one day i found this maybelline shine free lose powder at my local target and decided to give it a try. i am so so glad i did because this stuff is amazing. i got it in light because the other color would have been a little too dark and brown for me. when my face is all gross and oily i just take my kabuki brush and tap a little of the powder into the cap of the container. then i just buff the product onto the brush and then gently sweep onto my face so i dont knock around the creme too much. the powder is actually translucent and gives my skin the most perfect satin, real skin type finish which i love.

with this routine for the last month (it's been sunny) i havent tanned any and have actually lost my tan a few more shades!

also another thing that is amazing about this is that it perfects my skin. i dont have very bad acne or scarring or anything like that. except for an occasional pimple and dark circles under my eyes at least. an the thick creamy sunscreen added up with the powder for extra coverage are all i really need for perfect natural spring skin everyday!

the real reason i wanted this sunscreen is that on the back it says it will help protect against additional deeper damage, i.e. tanning
i really do think it has worked too.

overall, these are two very good products that will work amazingly for any skintone (not very very dark i assume) as well as be very good for your skin. the sunscreen retails at a fairly hefty $12.99 at a drugstore and the powder i got for $4.00. these products are both very worth the money and are easily accessible to everyone. i recommend them highly! ill probably be using a ton of this stuff over the summer too!

P.S. Has anyone tried the face version? i dont know whether to get it or not because they seem sort of the same...

Also i forgot to mention, i use this stuff liberally on my face and neck as well as my arms and legs all the time and i am stuff half full. i've had it for probably a month and i think that's pretty good. i went on a charity walk in 90 degree whether with this stuff and shared it with people too, its awesome.

Why Hello There! *being proud of what i can do*

okay, so i'm a noob at this. JUST SO YOU KNOW! haha this is my first blog post and i am so so excited about it! i just put up my first video today, which was kind of weird. at my school, we have this thing called poetyryfest, and i had never been so i went today. it was pretty cool and i got yummy pizza and listened to really heartfelt and original poetry. right before that i was on youtube and went over to upload just to check it out. just as i do with shopping, i got sucked in before i knew what was happening.
i decided to just make a quick test video for the channel on the crappy little, "upload from here" section, and i did. i was so so nervous it took me like 5 tries to do it without looking worried or a little too weird. when i was okay with one take, i just put it up.
i went to check on it a few minutes ago and GUESS WHAT!!?!? 2 views! YES!
although the audio is way off and you see the actions that go with my words about 20 seconds after you hear them....its still pretty awesome in my eyes.
i just made a little video about me introducing my channel and giving you the lowdown of how i got started in makeup.
i honestly dont care if i get 20 views in 2 years, i'll still love it because of the fact that i made it and 20 people actually saw it and may have even enjoyed it.
if you are interested at all, here is the link:
rate, comment, subscribe? haha SHAMELESS
ok im going to go now, i hope i didnt forget anything!
ill be sure to check back in with you guys soon, bye
